Giving Old Textiles New Life
My mission is to fill life with as much whimsy as possible using materials already available and perhaps already once loved.
I upcycle and recycle textiles, clothing, notions -anything I can to create something new from something old.
Clothing and textiles lead the world as the one of the most wasteful industries. In 2018 alone, the EPA estimated that 17 million tons of textiles were generated! Almost 10x as much as was generated in the year 1960.
Where does it all go when it gets a tear, falls out of trend, or immediately after your great aunt gives you another itchy sweater?
Well, landfill mostly.
About the Maker
Hi! My name is Maia, I am a maker and plant enthusiast. I have been sewing since the tender age of 11, when I decided I would be a fashion designer. My Barbies were extremely well-dressed. Time has passed, I grew, and so did my skills!
I love nature, the gothic and macabre but also a heavy dose of whimsy and color. Hopefully you will see both in my makes.
I use almost entirely second-hand fabrics, textiles, or clothing to create pieces with a new spark! Creating is a constant state of play. I love dreaming up new designs, playing off classic silhouettes and new textures, and working with my hands.
